Are you worried about losing your data, photos, music, or applications on your Windows 11 computer? Don’t fret! We’ll show you how to easily back up your Windows 11 computer using an external hard drive.

Windows 11, the latest operating system from Microsoft, offers exciting new features and enhancements. However, it’s crucial to safeguard your valuable data. To do this, we recommend backing up your computer to an external hard drive. You can easily purchase one from Amazon, and we’ve included a link to a reliable external hard drive in the video description.

Once you have your external hard drive, simply plug it into your computer. Open File Explorer and navigate to “This PC.” You’ll notice two drives listed: your computer’s internal hard drive (C drive) and the newly connected external hard drive (usually labeled as a new volume or drive letter). The extra storage space provided by the external hard drive allows you to store multiple backups securely.

Now, let’s address the somewhat confusing process of backing up Windows 11. Initially, you might think the option would be available under “Windows Backup” in the Settings menu. However, it’s actually hidden away. To access it, click on the search icon and type “Control Panel.” This takes you to the familiar Control Panel interface, reminiscent of Windows 7. Within the Control Panel, you’ll find the “Backup and Restore” option, which is what we’ll be using to back up your Windows 11 computer.

Selecting “Backup and Restore” will present you with the option to set up a backup. The system will automatically detect your external hard drive and recommend backing up to that device. Although you can explore advanced options, such as selecting specific folders to back up, we recommend choosing the “Let Windows choose” option, which backs up everything by default. This includes your documents, applications, and even a system image, enabling a complete computer restoration if necessary.

If you wish to schedule regular backups, Windows 11 provides that option. You can specify a particular day and time for the backup to occur automatically. However, for this demonstration, we’ll proceed without a schedule.

After confirming your settings, the backup process will commence. The duration of the backup will vary based on the amount of data on your computer. Once completed, you’ll see a summary of the backup, including the size of the backup file.

Remember, it’s essential to keep your external hard drive separate from your computer to ensure the safety of your backup. Store it in a different location to mitigate the risk of losing both in the event of a disaster.
